The Makers & Shapers are Hotting Up in Miami!

Don’t miss the Iron Pour on Tuesday December 3rd with Alfred & UNF at Florida International University!

The Public Iron Pour will take place at Florida International University, Sculpture Studios on Tues Dec 3rd from 1pm – 5pm. Artists will start making molds from Nov 29th : the castings can be seen on Dec 4th. Please come by and meet the artists and see the new work made as part of the ISC ‘Makers & Shapers’ Symposium.

Come watch ‘MothRa’ from Alfred University, NY and ‘Julie’ from Florida Northern University in action as they melt up to #4000 of Molten Iron to temperatures of 2650 degrees Fahrenheit in order to cast new work made by International Artists. Continue reading

International Sculpture Center is seeking qualified student volunteers for the 2013 Makers & Shapers Symposium in Miami! The Makers & Shapers Symposium volunteer opportunity offers a reduced registration rate of $150 in exchange for 14 volunteer hours throughout the duration of the Symposium. Volunteers will gain valuable experience in running a multi-day arts event, strengthen their resumes, and benefit from networking opportunities while listening in on stimulating artist presentations and activities throughout the Symposium. IRON WORKSHOP PARTICPANTS ANNOUNCED !

Participants for the ISC Cast Iron Sculpture Workshop hail from all corners of the globe, you can visit and chat to them about their work during the ISC Symposium as they make molds and cast Iron at FIU in Miami from 29th – 4th Dec 2013. The selected artists reflect a diversity in techniques and approaches to sculpture through mold making and iron casting, ranging from performative and digital to traditional and ancient. The concept of the workshop is to examine the current pulse regarding contemporary practices and the potential use of cast iron as a vehicle of expression. Iron has a long rich history with our earth and its industrial heritage ; it is at the same time domestic, elemental, commonplace and cosmic. Continue reading
